Model 70
- Length of pull is 13 5/8, Length of pull can be shortened. The stock must be cut to length and a new grind to fit recoil pad installed. The existing pad can not be re-used on the shorter stock.
- Comb/Drop as measured from center line of the barrel is 3/8" down at the nose and 3/8" down at the heel.
- The stock is a free float design. The barrel doesn't touch the stock when properly installed. Some rifles will require fitting due to variances.
- Stock is "drop-in" design. However, if glass bedding is desired, the internal hard plastic surfaces can be roughed up to provide good adhesion in critical bedding areas. The greatest accuracy potential will be obtained using the Full-length aluminum bed block stock versions. Sanded aluminum will provide an excellent adhesion surface for epoxies and bedding compounds. The stock's external rubber surface bonds poorly with epoxies, but is irrelevant to the internal hard plastic action contact surfaces.
- The barrel channel contour can be adjusted / re-cut to a given barrel contour. The easiest method to remove rubber or plastic is with a Dremel tool using a sanding drum installed. Use 4-6 plus layers of masking tape to protect the external stock surfaces that are NOT to be sanded. Work slow and check progress often. The material can not be put back once removed.
- Standard and sporter barrels are the same size.
- Featherweight barrels are smaller in shape and are standard on short action rifles, except WSM calibers.
- The WSM and WSSM short action stocks are unique to their specific calibers and are designed to fit the factory standard barrels.
- Models with blind magazine or one-piece floorplates, such as Coyote, Black Shadow, Super Shadow, Westerner, etc. can be fit by converting to two-piece floorplate configuration. Parts can be purchased from Winchester Parts Dept. or reputable parts dealer such as Brownell's.
- will fit hinged two-piece bottom, not blind magazine well.
- will fit Post 64 rifles (manufactured after 1964)
- will fit new rifles that are marketed as "pre-64" extractor design.
- will fit the Winchester ranger.
- will fit the model 70 XTR
- will not fit the 770, 670
- will not fit true pre-64 rifles, old pre 64 rifles have a band about 5in. away from the action on the barrel. if that band is there, then it is an OLD pre 64.
- will not fit the XPR version
- Will adapt to Montana Action. Start with stock made for Win. long-action, one-piece floorplate. Small amount of additional floorplate inletting depth needed. Also, tiny amount of material removal at front of receiver ring.
- Winchester WSM and Short Action screw spacing is 7.06”
- Winchester Long Action screw spacing is 7.62"
- Recommended Torque 55-65 IN/LBS
- Long Action models with MOA trigger system will require the stock to be modified. The front of the trigger area needs to be relieved for the front of the trigger system in order for the action to fit in the stock.
- Does not work on the .416 Remington chambered rifles or any rifle with the additional recoil lug and screw forward of the action.
- Does not work on the Super Express in 375 H&H Magnum. It has a second recoil lug forward of the action.
