The Colt Detective Special and Diamondback are both D-Frames and can use the same grip. Our grips fit guns made after 1966 as listed below. Later frames such as the Magnum Carry model are known as SFVI frames and are slightly thicker at the top. Because of this wood grips are available for both the standard D frame and for the SFVI and must be ordered accordingly. The Hogue rubber grip fits both because it has enough flex to accommodate the frame difference. Wood grips have an open backstrap and the rubber grip has a closed backstrap.
1966 to 1981 model cobras will fit wood grips (square butt during those production years)

Hogue grips for the Detective Special are the one-piece Monogrip design. They are ambidexterous allowing both right and left handed use. Installation is simple requiring the grip pin be removed and the stirrup to be snapped in place. The grip then slides up from the butt, with one screw securing the grip through the butt. All necessary hardware is provided. The stirrup pin goes through the center of the frame, not the pin hole.
Does not fit the 1950 model of the colt police
Does not fit the 2017 model of the Colt Cobra. Rubber will accommodate the new variance, but not wood.
This grips fits the below guns that are made after 1966. The steel framed guns with serial #D900101 and above & the lightweight framed guns with serial #200101LW and above.
