Model 700
- ONLY FITS REM 700. Other models are similar but do not fit correctly. There are rifles that are essentially "copies" of the Remington 700, if said rifle will fit in a factory Rem. 700 stock it should fit in the Hogue stock. Some fitting may be required.
- The long action magnum uses the long action stock.
- The short action magnum uses the short action stock.
- The difference between the magnum and the standard actions has to do with the magazine body as far as our Hogue stock is concerned. It will fit the magnum actions.
- Stock can be made to fit the Model 7 action. Start with a short action stock. You will use the rear pillar as is. The rear action screw will need to get shortened a little due to it protruding up through the action on the Hogue stock. The recoil lug location will need to be moved backwards on the stock. The front of the current magazine well will need to be relieved for the front action screw. The ejection port will need additional clearance in the back. The back of the magazine well will have to be moved to the rear and the bottom of the stock relieved for the floorplate. The conversion will leave gaps behind the trigger guard and at the front of the floorplate. The barrel channel at the action will also have some small gaps due to the action being shorter. Gunsmith skill level is Moderate and it will require machining on the stock, recommend a downdraft cutter. Recommend using the black stock for the modification.
- Front sling stud is a #10-32TPI
- BDL = A hinged floorplate (AKA trigger guard) to allow for easy unloading of the magazine.
- ADL = A closed bottom stock without the provision for easy unloading.
- The Hogue Stock is a BDL type stock, a customer can purchase from various parts suppliers (Brownells, Midway, etc.) The necessary parts to convert their ADL rifle into a BDL. The parts needed are a Hinged Floor plate or detachable mag floorplate (see below) and the correct length action screws. The spring, follower and magazine box is usually retained, some rare cases require replacement.
- Several manufactures make after market detachable magazine floor plates. The Hogue stock will require the same amount/type of modification as a factory OEM stock would for the chosen brand of floor plate.
- DBM Stock is made for Factory DBM metal only. Will not work with aftermarket detachable magazine bottom metals.
- The stock is a free float design. The barrel doesn't touch the stock when properly installed. Some rifles will require fitting due to variances. Removal of material at the forend tip is a common fit need, the stock is designed with thicker rubber at the tip making it easier to fit.
- The barrel channel contour can be adjusted / re-cut to a given barrel contour. The easiest method to remove rubber or plastic is with a Dremel tool using a sanding drum installed. Use 4-6 plus layers of masking tape to protect the external stock surfaces that are NOT to be sanded. Work slow and check progress often. The material can not be put back once removed.
- Stock is "drop-in" design. However, if glass bedding is desired, the internal hard plastic surfaces can be roughed up to provide good adhesion in critical bedding areas. The greatest accuracy potential will be obtained using the Full-length aluminum bed block stock versions. Sanded aluminum will provide an excellent adhesion surface for epoxies and bedding compounds. The stock's external rubber surface bonds poorly with epoxies, but is irrelevant to the internal hard plastic action contact surfaces.
- Comb/Drop as measured from center line of the barrel is 1/2" down at the nose and 1/2" down at the heel. With a 13 3/4" LOP.
- Recommended Torque 55-65 IN/LBS
